ROME (Reuters) - The leader of the Democratic Party (PD, center left) Italian Pier Luigi Bersani, called Sunday Mario Monti to choose sides after it announced its intention to take the head a centrist coalition in early elections on 24 and 25 février.
outgoing Council President Mario Monti said Friday he intended to lead a coalition of centrist parties supporting his pro-European reform agenda and in the parliamentary elections, ending several weeks of speculation about his intentions.
Mario Monti is placed at the center of a three-way race that will pit the PD poll favorite, and the Freedom Party (PDL) Silvio Berlusconi.
Pier Luigi Bersani, who proposes to continue the reforms undertaken by the former European Commissioner focus on boosting employment and growth, once again called to clarify its position.
It especially calls to say he would support a program and left or right to know the choices that would be on the issue of human civiques.
"This centrist alliance should explain exactly where (she) is," he said Sunday at journalistes.
"Is that Monti and the center does not believe that the bipartisan political system works? Will they want to dismantle? If this is not the case, then which side are they?" < / p>
Pier Luigi Bersani also reiterated that the center was left open to a discussion on a possible alliance with Monti once he explained his intentions.
His request comes in the wake of statements by Silvio Berlusconi, who has accused his successor as head of government to foster gauche.
Pier Ferdinando Casini, leader of the Union of Christian Democrats and the Centre (UDC) and allied Mario Monti has meanwhile denied any collusion with gauche.
polls the Democratic Party promise a comfortable majority in the Chamber of Deputies, but the movement may have to agree with the center at Sénat.
A study published Sunday in the daily Il Sole 24 Ore reveals that nearly 36% of Italians would vote for the next election Bersani, against about 23% for Monti and nearly 22% for Berlusconi.
